Dropbox update 0.6.425 – Forum Build
We are still trying to come up with a name for this build. Any Ideas? Note: This forum build is more experimental than usual, so approach with caution!
- Dramatically reduced CPU & Memory usage on Mac OS X for large filesets (>20k files)
- Laptop power consumption due to CPU wakeups has also been dramatically reduced. Environmentally friendly Dropbox :)
- You can now unlink your Dropbox from the client (Check your preferences)
- A lot more resistant to file system failures during sync.
- New icon overlays on Mac OS X
- Tray icon tooltip now also shows dropbox status
- Build number information moved to preferences menu
- Fixed a couple win2k-related install issues
- Lots of tiny bug fixes.

Dropbox is a great service but it only backs up data in your Dropbox folder. Like me you probably have existing folders you’d like to backup without moving everything under your dropbox folder. Solution, symbolic links. SymbolicLinker is a cool plugin for creating symbolic links using Finder from the right click menu. Place the links in your Dropbox folder to backup the corresponding files and folders.
